Are you getting Page Cannot Be Displayed with Internet Explorer when you try to load a website over a secure connection?, has this been frustrating you to no end? Well keep reading on because below is quite a few solutions to the problem you are experiencing.Yes I did say quite a few as this when you are receiving “page cannot be displayed” over secure connections there can be quite a few reasons why! Before we start trying some of the solutions below I suggest you navigate to Verisign’s SSL Test Page where you check to see if you actually have an issue, because as you know its not always you that has the problem! Its possible that the site you are trying to access is having issues of its own, so go over to Verisign’s Secure Test Page and check for yourself first. If you are still reading this then i guess you do have a problem, so lets move on and look at some of the possible solutions that you can try. Before we do however one thing i would say is after each one of the solutions close and reopen Internet Explorer and test again because like i said above the solutions below are Possible solutions as page cannot be displayed over ssl sites can be caused by many different things, so make sure you check after each one. Maybe the first solution you try will fix this issue and I’m sure your time is not something you want to waste! These solutions are in no particular order so if you wish to work backwards that’s fine what ever suits you.

1.
Make sure you are completely up to date with all your Windows updates.

2.
Check your computer for Viruses/Spyware/Adware
all the programs that I have listed below are completly FREE so there is no excuse for you to not be protecting your computer!:
Spybot Search and destroy = Spyware removal
Adaware
= adware removal
AVG free edition = Virus removal

3.
It might sound a bit obvious but make sure that normal pages load and that you are not receiving an intermittent connection.

4.
Within Internet Explorer:
Delete your cookies
Delete temporary Files
Clear the History
Delete all offline content

5.
Open Internet Explorer
Navigate to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced
Scroll to the bottom and check that all SSL and TLS Check boxes are checked.

6.
If you are using Norton Internet security/Firewall disable them until next boot-up you may have inadvertently blocked access to SSL sites or just certain sites.

7.
Add the site you are trying to view (the secure connection site) to your trusted sites within Internet explorers options:
Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Trusted Sites -> Sites…
Type the site you are having issues with and then click Add

8.
Check any Firewalls you have to make sure you have Port 443 open (SSL).

9.
Check the Time and Date are correct on your computer (bottom right of your task bar)
This can cause issues if any of the certificates have an expiry date.

10.
Maybe Urlmon.dll is missing:
Login as Administrator Start -> Run -> Type in regsvr32 urlmon.dll and click Ok.
repeat above steps but with regsvr32 wintrust.dll and regsvr32 initpki.dll and softpub.dll

11.
Try a System Restore to a time when you know SSL was working.

12.
Uninstall/Reinstall Internet Explorer.

13.
Check that you have the lasted Version of Internet Explorer

14.
Update your Version of Java.

15. Download Firefox, you know its better!

Wow! a long list and I am very confident that its not complete! so if you still have the same issue now keep searching I’m sure you will find the fix in the end.. Or if your getting to the point where you are going to smash your computer to pieces with a sledge hammer or your fingers are bleeding from typing and eyes stinging from reading then maybe as a last resort format windows ;) makes all your problems go away!

I hope this was informative for you.

This is just a quick update to say that the tutorials that I was talking about before will be published early tomorrow, there almost done just two small parts need finishing off.  Will be fishing that off in the morning now.

Heads been a bit scrambled today with all the ideas that I’ve had all week and I’ve been waiting for Monday to come for what feels like forever just so I could get something stuff up. With that in mind, I’ve added two tutorials today and four are pretty much ready plus other things that I’ve been up to so all in all its been a productive day anyways.

Although a long day thats wore me out, hence why I won’t be finishing off the other 2 tutorials untill the morning, there is going to be a few days with tutorials like this being added becase they are the backbone of what I’m doing on the side, but you see without these tutorials the project that I’m working on would be incomplete so once I’ve got most/all of these modem, internet connection tutorials up I’ll add the main part thats been my focus for a week or two now.

Although I’ve not even start on the main part yet because I realised that what I’m telling you now, which is without the small things the big thing means nothing, in short!.

Anyway, Night Interweb!

As you will know if you have been reading this blog that last week I was unable to really add anything to the site due to personal reasons, but now that time has past and I’m able to start updating again which I have been doing all day.I’ve added two tutorials so far today and hopefully another 3 by the end of the day if not then they will be up tomorrow, only a little left to do tho so they should be on in the next few hours, but the two tutorials added today so far are:

How to Reinstall Dial-Up Networking (Dun)

Disable them Annoying Messenger Pop-ups aka Grey Pop-ups

I’m currently working on another three as I said above they are all to do with setting up dial-up connections, because as I’ve been telling you for a while now I am working on a larger tutorial type thing for the site but before I can think about adding that I need to add all the smaller pieces of the puzzel first so it all fits in nicely.

If you have any Questions, Comments or even Requests I’d love to hear from you.

Although I love my son, this week has been very long for me, not being able to update the site and only having free time at night when all my energy has gone. I’ve just been staring at my stats all week refreshing here and there and watching the visitors go down! This drop in visitors is happening because Adamsvds is quite a new just over 3 months old and at this time more then any it needs lots of TLC to help it grow and become a good resource.

I feel slightly disheartened this week watching my stats go down for the first time since I launched, as a result my fingers have been itching none stop to get back to the keyboard and get some content up. Tho all I’ve really got the time for is short posts like this!

Hopefully everything will be back to normal as of monday and I can start to get quality content up and keep moving forward, this has me slightly worried about the project that I have planned. While working on the project I may only be able to add one tutorial a day.

I’m hoping that while I do the project I can get maybe two up a day and try to keep something going while working on something bigger. The time that I plan for the project to take should not be a huge amout anyways, but that all depends on how things go.

On the plus side once monday comes I can get back to the norm and get content up and start work on the project that will be a fantastic resource when completed. So even tho I have worrys I think they will be out shadowed by the results that come from the upcoming project.

One thing that I can also say about this week thats been good is the amout that I’ve had chance to read, as you know leaning never stops and every little bit more that you can take onboard will help you in the future. More then anything since starting Adamsdvds I’ve read countles articles on traffic/SEO/Advertising/PPC etc etc some have been useful some not so and once in a while you find one thats right to the point and gives you all the information in the way that you want it with no BS.

Thinking about above, I might actualy look into adding such articles here all in one place giving all the information in a NO BS form thats easy to understand and digest, although its not directly within the technical theme its a tutorial/How to at the least and I feel that it would be good read for people interested in the subject or people starting out that would like to learn the basics or getting traffic and making money from your site etc

Thats something that will no dout come up in the future of Adamsdvds but for now I’m going to let you get on with your daily surfing.

As you all know this week I’m a little busy with my son although any free time I manage to get I’m trying to get some things rolling with the site. At the moment I’ve got quite a big project on the books, Your not going to get much information on this at the moment other then its 200+ pages long and should prove a VERY useful resource.ETA: on the project being complete is still a few weeks off as there is loads of work that still needs doing and more research to get a good overall view of each part of it etc.

Once this project is complete I plan for a Large increase in traffic which should help the site further evolve and grow into the resource that I plan for it to be. A lot of work is going into this the reason for the rather long time scale on the Project is because its only me working on it ( as usual lol ).

Thats about it for now with the updates I’ll try to add a few tutorials this week IF I get the chance, as any of your parents should know tho children are quite demanding and take up a lot of time ( Worth it tho, wouldnt change it for the world ).

Untill Next Time

With this being a personal blog aswell as a site blog I thought that I would let you know whats happening this week. From today the 11th of May untill the 21st of May I have got my 7 month old son with me, reason I’m telling you this is that because of this you are not going to see much content added to the site. Although I will try to add tutorials etc as and when I can this is just a warning to let you know whats going on. I’ve got a few things planned but like I said it all depends on how much time I’m able to spend writing it all and getting it all ready to be uploaded.

Maybe I’ll spend some more time updating and adding during the evening hours where I will have more time to my self. While saying this tho I’m still online all day and any emails that come through will be answered as soon as possible, some input from YOU the visitor would be nice… all I’ve been getting so far is spam posts.

Which again brings me to another point, why do they spam? every post has to be approved before it goes live anyway and they are all checked by my self before being approved… So if you are one of the many spamers posting in my blog just be warned that I have your IP I can contact your ISP and I will do so, but more importantly you are wasting yours and my time as your spam will not ever be approved.

Thats about it for now, I’ll update with more if there is anything else to tell you. And as usual I’ll update if there are any updates on the site.

This has been something that I’ve been thinking about doing for a while now because to be honest you don’t see a lot of tutorials how there telling you how to do this, sure there are plently for IE but people are getting more and more wise to IE every day and moving on to better browsers such as Firefox.I myself am a proud Firefox user, and I do have internet shorcuts on my desktop. Do I wnat them to open up in IE? NO! Ofcourse not I want anything to do with the internet to open up in Firefox.

So anyway getting to the point now, if you want to make a shortcut to the internet but dont want it to open up in IE you want it to open in Firefox then follow the tutorial below it will not take you long and it is very simple to follow.

I’ve put up a new Firefox Tutorial today showing you how to stop all your images being resized by Firefox.By default everytime you open and image in Mozilla Firefox it will be resized to fit within your browser window, now if you are looking at quite a few images this becomes annoying over time as everytime you open an image you need to then click on the image to see it full size.

This can cause you to waste quite a bit of time depending on how much you view images in Firefox, Not anymore! Now you can follow this tutorial that I will link to at the bottom of this post.

Once you have compledted the simple tutorial everytime you open an image from now on in Firefox it will be displayed FULL SIZE by default.

Stop Firefox Auto Resizing Images

For the past few days you might have noticed that I’ve not added any new tutorials although I am usualy busy over the weekend this is not the full story, I have been working on the site most of the weekend just not the end that you directly see.I’ve been adding all the Adsense ads to the site, the plan was to blend them in as much as possible and not to get them in your way. I think I’ve managed to do both and I’m quite pleased with the result so far.

Secondly I’ve been doing quite a bit of SEO.. Meaning I’ve been updating Title tags, Page Descriptions and overall page wording. Even tho at the moment I have less then 100 pages this is still taking quite some time as I’m having to speed a good amout of time on each page trying to get the keywords and phrases in.

There is still qutie a bit going on, although I hope to get some more tutorials up as soon as possible.

The Most Popular Pages or Adamsdvds so far are:

Mail Servers - Common UK List of SMTP POP3 IMAP

Run Commands - 174 Commands for Windows XP

.EXE file not working - “Windows Cannot Open This File” - FIX!!
