Feedback Urgently Required, From You! Microsoft Outlook 2007 System Requirements
Aug 08

This is more of an add-on tutorial linked to my Xbox Live ICS tutorial, as this has been one of the errors received.

So you was trying to set up ICS and suddently you got this error message in your face, “An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled” Well Don’t worry it’s not the end of the road yet, you will recevie this error message if one or more of the services required for ICS are not running which in most cases can be easily fixed by finding the services and turning them on.

First Lets find where the services are:

Click Start then Click Run Or Hold down the Windows Key and press ‘R’.
Now type in Services.msc. and click Ok.
You will now be presented with the Services Window.

This is where you can stop and start services now listed below are all the services that are required to be running for ICS to work.

Application Layer Gateway Service
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness (NLA)
Plug And Play
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Remote Access Connection Manager
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Telephony

Now you need to scroll though the list of services in the window and find all them services listed above and ensure that they are turned on. To do this all you have to do is double click on the Service and in the properties window that pops up Click Start then Ok.

There is also a drop down box on the poperties windows where you can change the services from Manual to Automatic, Just be sure to make a few little notes of what services you changed and please dont turn any off unless you know what it does because this could cause you more problems then its worth.

Now you NEED to restart your computer at this point and try ICS again, If you are still receiving the error an error occurred while Internet connection sharing was being enabled, there is one more thing you should check.

Go back into Services.msc and on each of the services I mentioned one at a time and double click.
This will bring up the properties for that service.
Click on the Log On tab.
Make sure This Account is selected.
Check to see if the service is enabled on your hardware profile.
If this service is disabled click enable.
Do this for all the services mentioned above then restart your computer again and retry.

Hopefully this will solve the Issue.

I have gone through all the steps a couple times, and I have even followed the steps enabling ICS a few more times too but I still keep on getting a message that says:
“An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled”

once I even had an extension that said “ICS not available to connect at this time” or something similar to that, but I’ve now been getting the original message again each time I try the procedures.

Alex I’m not sure what to say to now, Other then what I’ve allready given there is not much else that I can think to resolve your issue, maybe doing a search yourself might find more revelent results because as you know I don’t know the in’s and out’s of your computer Try this search. The only other thing that I can suggest at this time is that you try Bridging the connection. Sorry I could’nt really be of anymore help :(

alex i think i found a solution, I was having the same problem. I turned on 2 of the services and i still got the error message. Then i decided to try and input a manual ip 4 (tcp/…) address under the LAN connection. I entered the same information as the wireless ip address: 192.168.0.1 and used the 255…subnet mask. When i went to try and enable ics under the wireless sharing tab it worked! i got a warning message telling me to be careful about conflicting ip addresses but so far it has been ok. So i think originally there was an ip conflict, and i resolved it.

Evan, thank you, you found the problem! And thank you administrator for these tutorials. However, I think I should mention that I found a whole lot easier way to connect your xbox 360 to your computer without the need for additional hardware. Make sure you have your ethernet cable connected to both your computer and your xbox, of course. TURN OFF ICS Network Sharing, then simply CTRL-click on both your wireless and local area connection, right click on either and then select “Bridge Connections.” Viola! Now you have connectivity on both your computer and your xbox at the same time, not to mention this method is a whole lot easier!

  6. admin Says:

Allen I have both of these tutorials covered within the blog, for just that reason.
Some people have issues with ICS and some have issues with Bridging but usually people dont have issues with both. If you use the search bar at the top you will find the Bridging tutorial, thank you for trying to be helpfull though :)
