config.trim_on_minimize
This tutorial will show you to enable config.trim_on_minimize in Firefox's abou:config preferences, which will give you a way to make Firefox release the high amounts of RAM that it uses after running for a while.
What does this tweak do?
When you minimize Firefox normally it does not release the RAM that its using, This can cause issues on older computer or with people that are using other memory hungry programs such as Adobe Photoshop. This preference makes Firefox store its information on your Hard Drive when you minimize it there for releasing the RAM and when you un-minimize Firefox it will load the information back into RAM. You shouldn't really notice a pause or a time delay while your computer does this, and once un-minimized you will also notice that Firefox is using less RAM then it was before you minimized it. Firefox may take a few seconds to release the memory but you should see some improvement by using this tweak.
